Lubb dubb: A heartbeat. A legacy. My story.

Time flies by. Reality sinks in, but memories stay, as crisp as freshly washed linen, and as clear as what is written here.

2008... and action

So the first day of the New Year 2008 has come and gone without me wishing my readers a Happy one or sharing my resolutions with you all. As I seek your forgiveness and hope you accept my apologies, I rake my mind to think about the resolutions I penned down on a piece of loose A4, no doubt hiding somewhere in the trash now. And although I'm hardly your superstitious, believe-in-everything-if-not- it-may- come- back- to- haunt- you girl, I still believe in welcoming in the new year and starting afresh. So as I was sitting at my desk after a tired day of work at S&C, I pulled out a scrap paper from my waste basket and grabbing a thick marker pen, scrawled, 'New Year's Resolution'.

Year after year, the things I want to do in the new year always remain the same. I'm not sure if this shows my loyalty or if it means I never resolve anything that I set out to do. I think I'll settle for the latter one. So first up was my pledge to not eat chocolate. I can already hear the shrieks and outrage of fellow chocoholics but let me enlighthen you that this was penned after two weeks of binge chocolate eating. With boxes and boxes of Lindor (so sinfully good), Hamlets, Hershey's, rum balls, and hazelnut pralines.. I was determined to cut chocolate out of my system. Okay maybe not totally but to reduce the intake I must. And so far, so good. After maybe two cookies and cream hersheys, I haven't had any solid chocolate since new year's day. A major and outstanding feat that deserves applauding. Thank you very much. :P

Next on the list was to work out and have a flat tummy by the time uni starts. And I'm proud to say, after buying a new adidas swim suit and a darn new cheap speedo googles which lets water in, I've been hitting the pool at least thrice a week. And now although my skin smells perpetually of chlorine, the release of the happy hormone endorphine is doing me good.

Since this year would be my final year of varsity.. oh my.. can you believe it? Still seems like yesterday when our chemistry tutor named... can't even remember his name but remember that he was cute, welcomed us to varsity. Shucks, I think I have been at uni for too long. You know you have when your mind's just clogged with names after names of tutors, lecturers and paper numbers and you confuse Joerge Kistler with Nigel Birch or Paul Donaldson with Janus Lipski. Not that I think anyone can confuse those big names but even I can't remember all the lecturers we had and can't differentiate between what I learnt in Biosci 101 and Biosci 106. I was telling Jay at work, an enthusiastic doctor-to-be and new biomed student in the upcoming sem 1, that I envy those people starting year one. Not that I'd ever do it again but just the exhilarating feeling of starting Uni. Everything so new and fresh. Again, when you're done with first year and then second year, everything starts becoming a bit old and you see things with a critical adult eye, you get assigned not so good lecturers and your time table sucks. But as I was saying, since it's our final year as Biomeders, for a lot of people and myself included, I don't think it'll be our final year of studying, we had lots planned for this year! Marie and I decided to join the tramping club, a great way to see the nature side of NZ.. not that we don't get our fair share of the trees and the bees but you know what I mean, dessert club for cheap desserts on Friday nights and the usual UMSA for discounts and Malaysian social events. On top of that, hopefully if everything turns out well, should be going for a trip to Queenstown with Fei. I so wanna go skydiving! Sure it's going to cost a bomb but I guess it's all worth it!

So I am already anticipating the start of my second to last semester as a Biomeder. The journey has been long although it doesn't seem so. Rsearch is going well and wanted to talk more about it but my bum is becoming numb from sitting too long on the chair and might go get some fresh air. Okey dokey. See you all soon!!
